Did you know that the federal government has allocated hundreds of millions of dollars to support abstinence-only-until-marriage education programs? There is no research showing that these types of programs are effective at helping young people to delay sexual behaviors. In fact, at least one study found that youth who received this kind of intervention without supplemental facts about contraception and safer sex had a higher incidence of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
This is one of many issues on which SIECUS (the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States) focuses its time and expertise.
